Flour City Wins IAHL Championship in Shootout

Flour City Hockey Club took home the IAHL (Monday Novice) championship with a 3-2 victory over Cherry Pickers in a shootout.

Cherry Pickers got on the board first before Pat Whitman stuffed one home in front of the net to tie it up in the first. The goal was assisted by Doug Keller and Ken Klotzbach.

Another Cherry Pickers tally in the second gave them a 2-1 that lasted until the game’s final minutes. Flour City pulled their goalie with 90 seconds left in the game for the extra skater. The decision proved effective as Pat Whitman won an offensive zone draw to Bryce Waltman who scored on the wrister to force overtime.

The teams skated to a draw after five minutes of overtime play, resulting in a shootout to decide the game.

In an emergency start for Flour City, alternate goalie Andrew Brashich turned away all four Pickers shots in the shootout. Pat Whitman was the first to score for Flour City, which turned out to be the game winner. Bryce Waltman next to netted the championship clinching goal.

Flour City finished their debut season in the IAHL (Monday Novice) division with a record of 8-2-2.
